Tim McDonald, architect and partner in Onion Flats Development, says three buildings nearing completion in Fishtown will be LEED certified, but Thin Flats homes in Northern Liberties will be LEED Gold, the second highest rank. They'll have have such insulation and efficient heating, cooling, and appliances that they'll use only 50 percent of code-mandated utilities. And that green roof:

The homes also capture rain runoff that can then be used to water the rooftop garden.
